When I bought my current home it was definitely what would be described as a fixer upper. I had to completely remodel the kitchen, which wasn't much more than a shell when I moved in, but I was on a tight budget. I started learning how to do the essential work that was involved, such as installing kitchen cabinets, replacing the sink, tiling and laying wood flooring, and I felt such a strong sense of accomplishment when the work was done and I had a beautiful kitchen for a fraction of the price it would have cost to pay a professional kitchen fitter.
