How To Give Your Bedroom A Facelift On A Budget

When I bought my current home it was definitely what would be described as a fixer upper. I had to completely remodel the kitchen, which wasn't much more than a shell when I moved in, but I was on a tight budget. I started learning how to do the essential work that was involved, such as installing kitchen cabinets, replacing the sink, tiling and laying wood flooring, and I felt such a strong sense of accomplishment when the work was done and I had a beautiful kitchen for a fraction of the price it would have cost to pay a professional kitchen fitter. I started this blog to share what I learned and exchange tips with other home improvement enthusiasts. I hope you enjoy my blog.

For many, the bedroom is a place to escape to after a long day or when you just need to relax in peaceful surroundings. Maybe your bedroom is the place you go to read a book, catch up on your favourite shows or meditate for a while, but you're becoming increasing distracted by the aging décor.  If your bedroom is looking a little shabby, but you don't have the budget for a complete remodel, there are some simple steps you can take to give the room a facelift without breaking the bank.

Use Accessories To Brighten The Room

A few pieces of colourful wall art, a contemporary lamp and some brightly coloured aromatherapy candles, can lift the atmosphere in your bedroom and leave you feeling like you're in a whole new space. These simple accessories can be bought inexpensively online, and if you want your wall art to have a personal touch, get a few frames from a charity shop and use them to hang handwritten quotes that inspire you, a photo collage that reminds you of a fun time in your life or some dried, pressed flowers from your garden.

Refresh Wall Coverings

It's not expensive to give your bedroom walls a fresh coat of paint, and you can choose a paint colour that will help set the mood you want to achieve in your bedroom. Lavender, pale pink and aqua are considered calming and relaxing colours, while caramel and ruby red are thought to be sensual and romantic colours. If don't want to commit to repainting the entire bedroom, you could paint a feature wall in a contrasting colour or use paint stencils to change the look of your bedroom walls. Paint stencils can add elegance and style to your walls, with flowers, wheel designs and word art being good options for adult bedrooms.

Opt For Unique Soft Furnishings

There's nothing wrong with cushions, rugs and curtains from department stores, but unique, soft furnishings are one way you can make your bedroom look and feel like you've spent more than you have. If you enjoy crafting, consider making your own no-sew cushion covers or pillow slips with material you already have. Alternatively use online marketplaces, such as Etsy or Made It, to source handmade soft furnishings you won't find on the high street. For window coverings, opt for custom-made curtains for your bedroom. They don't cost much more than premade curtains, and as they are made-to-measure and can be made in any fabric you choose, they can add sophistication to your room. If you want to create a relaxed atmosphere in your bedroom, choose floor length curtains, and if you want to create a chic bedroom, choose window length curtains.

These are a just a few ways you can give your bedroom a face-lift on a tight budget. If you're struggling to know where to start, clear out any clutter or belongings you don't love and consider how you want to feel when you spend time in your bedroom. This will help kick-start creative thinking and spark your imagination.
