Choosing the Right Mattress

When I bought my current home it was definitely what would be described as a fixer upper. I had to completely remodel the kitchen, which wasn't much more than a shell when I moved in, but I was on a tight budget. I started learning how to do the essential work that was involved, such as installing kitchen cabinets, replacing the sink, tiling and laying wood flooring, and I felt such a strong sense of accomplishment when the work was done and I had a beautiful kitchen for a fraction of the price it would have cost to pay a professional kitchen fitter. I started this blog to share what I learned and exchange tips with other home improvement enthusiasts. I hope you enjoy my blog.

Choosing the Right Mattress

The right mattress makes a world of a difference when it comes to a good night's sleep. Sleeping on a mattress that has lost its shape or one that does not suit an individual's body can not only cause disruption to their sleep but can also initiate back problems. This is why it is essential to invest in a high-quality mattress to ensure that one's health is not compromised. There are many types of mattresses, and it can be confusing when deciding to purchase one.

Here is some info on various types of mattresses:

Memory Foam

Memory foam mattresses are especially suited for those who typically sleep on their sides. This is because this type of mattress is made out of a special foam that gradually adjusts to the shape of one's body as they sleep. For side sleepers, the memory foam provides much-needed shoulder and hip support helping to minimise pain and tension in these areas allowing for a great nights sleep. Another advantage of memory foam mattresses is that the actual mattress comprises numerous layers of foam. This means the mattress will not sag towards the middle overtime (a frequent issue in other types of mattresses).

Gel

In this type of mattress, a gel material is also added to foam mattresses usually in the upper upholstery layer or inside the mattress. This mattress should definitely be tested out before purchasing to decide whether it suits one's needs. Basically the gel material helps your body to dissipate heat in a more effective manner, unlike other types of mattresses which may absorb heat, causing discomfort. The gel beads absorb the heat that comes out of the body allowing the person sleeping on the mattress to feel cool and to sleep without feeling hot and uncomfortable.

Water Bed

This is another popular type of mattress. In this type, water is used as the major support system. Waterbeds have a chamber of water that is padded with foam or other material. This type of mattress can also be selected in varying degrees of firmness so that one can decide which one they prefer the most.

Adjustable Bases

This type of mattress allows one to adjust the base of the bed to either elevate their head, raise their feet or increase back support. This type of mattress is great for those who suffer from more severe back pain or conditions such as sleep apnea.

As there are so many different types of mattresses available, one should take their time to choose one that best suits their needs.
